I'm often challenged when teaching students who are high risk (adults, remanded into custody, GED students, etc.) because the lure of a life, of money, of indulgence seems so much easier aside from a desk, books, computers. I will honestly tell you that a small percentage of students of color make it through large programs precisely because of the allure of easy and fast money. But is it really all it's chalked up to be? No, not at all.
