Architecture and Function of Complex Systems
System architecture is the study of early decision making in complex systems. This text teaches how to capture experience and analysis about early system decisions, and how to choose architectures that meet stakeholder needs, integrate easily, and evolve flexibly. With case studies written by leading practitioners, from hybrid cars to communications networks to aircraft, this text showcases the science and art of system architecture. Review by Kyle Phoenix
While it might see like an odd book too include on the liberation List, this one is important as we move from the 21st to the 22nd century. We, people, workers, business owners, will have to learn how to design systems. Whether that system is something as an Amazon drop shipping/fulfillment enterprise out of our basements or an eBay small business or even a brick and mortar shop, the methodology of systems design is important.
This book takes you through several forms of systems architecture, first explaining it and then outlining how it operates in the world. Whether that be in computer systems/computer design or larger projects such as organizations/companies and the movement of products., This book acts as an excellent reference material for understanding business like Amazon, Alibaba, Google, WalMart. Incidentally I worked for WalMart for 6 months, which is what got me interested in systems architecture and between this book and just standing and listening to, seeing and kaingin farther, I was able to garner a deep level understanding of one of the largest retailers on the plan.
What I would recommend one does with this is try to find a class on say Coursera that would confer a certificate that you can attach to your Linked In profile/resume to show you've been directly taught and understand systems architecture.
Smile, Kyle
