Kyle Phoenix Answers: Have you ever cut complete ties with your family without telling them? Did it help you?

Yes, after my mother died I cut lots of alcoholic and drug addict family members. I’d maintained contact for her when she was alive but once she was gone, I realized that all they ever brought me was grief, lies, abuse, confusion. No support, just greed, and drama.

It was like I was suddenly free and didn’t even realize how much of a weight they felt like, once removed, for years. Twice I engaged with them against my better judgment and got burned both times and finally, it dawned on me that it was them, their mentality, their addictions, their poverty, not me. They are crazymakers.

I don’t miss them, cousins, etc.. There are a couple of cousins I was close to, one or two died. And the child of another, I helped get a great teaching job.

I think about starting my life anew, I’m an only child and just yesterday I was looking at my bank balance and thinking—-I could just pick up and go anywhere, start over in a new city. I could do that and not have to answer to anyone.

Right after my mother died I almost moved to the Bahamas, I was just going to pack a knapsack and get on a flight, I figured I could find a job there. I have a lot of skills so I’d be fine anywhere that I could speak or figure out the language. Amazingly enough, I was held back by having a storage room full of books and writing. lol

But I did run the numbers on Hotels in Australia and Fiji—-Napali—-Tony Robbins island. And last year I cried as I looked at pics of Tanzania where there was a TedX conference I was considering going to.

This could get very interesting in the next few years……God, I’m glad they’re all gone from my life.

Though I harbor this secret giggle wish of winning like $400 million in the PowerBall and my name being broadcast across the country.

And not answering any of their calls…..
