Aside from being a black man, is it racist for me to not like or be attracted to white women? Like not wanting to date them or be intimate with any of them? #KylePhoenix

Of course you’re racist. But that’s the point of the whole set up—-for you to act in racist ways, no matter what race you are designated.

I’m often amazed, while teaching adults, that they assume that the entire country, the entire world, wasn’t completely and fully indoctrinated into racializing people and that somehow—-with your Professor Xavier mental shields—-YOU (or they) resisted the indoctrination.

The United States government actually hired consultants, Blumenbach and Lineaus, to falsely scientifically legitimize what was a specious idea as the county was reforming around democracy, independence, a Declaration of Independence and a Constitution. The reason it swept so well were payoffs, laws, threats, free labor, $5 Indians (where White men were given swaths of land for $5 by claiming to be Native American.) There has always been a profiteering to race in America.

The US Government hired White men to prove a social construct.

Racism, racializing people within an American context, was designed by the gentry class land owners before and during the constriction of the 13 colonies, to cause a deep division between the lower class population. At that point, before the earnest slave trade—-all kinds and hues of folk were coming to America, following the European standard of servitude as indentured (time bound) servants. You paid for passage to here from anywhere by generally working for a person, business, family for 10 years. Then you were free.

What happened though was that the rich/land owners saw that the serfs were vastly outnumbering them and pushing for rights, rules, control, better “pay”. So the laws was passed in the early 1600s that Whites could kill Blacks; Blacks had lesser/no property rights and most important Whites could own Blacks and Blacks could not assault nor kill Whites without being prosecuted/executed.

Then as time went on, more and more laws, and regulations and reductive to human rights points were made towards Blacks, Native Americans, Latinos, even Asians and through the 19th century other “forms” of White people—Irish, Italians, Polish, Russian, Jews, etc.. What broke this was the Asian lawsuit against Americans in the early 1900s that went to the Supreme Court as they were trying to break the monetary and biological propagation restrictions on Asians in America by arguing that they technically had “white” skin and therefore were legally White. This was shot down. But it w3as an important crack in the White legalized hegemony of racial segregation.

More importantly the thorough strain of racial legality and social enforcement has been around miscegenation (the interbreeding of people considered to be of different racial types.) Race mixing. For over 400 years. By threat of killing of the children, imprisonment of the man or woman. But more pointedly, that White women have always been considered verboten to Black men—-which is where a frenzy of Blacks being lynched—-thousands—-has occurred over those 400 years, all the way up to the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and yes, through the 2000s.

The fastest way to commit suicide as a Black man in America is to interact in a sexual, intimate, romantic way with White women.

Hell, you could whistle and she’d get you lynched.

Ask Emmett Till.

So yes, it’s racist—-non-White people can be racist because non-White people have race-d White people. White people, in a classic racist ideology, assume themselves as the nexus of reality—-therefore not a race. But in order to categorize others, you must then categorize yourself. And once you categorize yourself, we, folk of color, categorize you back without regard to culture, creed, ethnicity. White, White, White. Not Black? White. Lithuanian? White. Polish? White. Half Jewish a quarter Russian and a quarter French? White.

But, one, is it bad?

The risk to life and limb for the idealized “forbidden fruit”? We assume, as good people, and we all falsely assume we’re good people, who look up at our Thanksgiving tables and think it’s normal that it’s generally of only one hue, that exclusionary discrimination based upon race is okay. It’s not.

BUT

The most “advanced” of us, the most progressive do it.

This is Joe Biden’s family.

Huh.

Let’s look closely at the Biden family. Look closer. Much, much closer.

What DON’T you see?

Huh.

Yeah. Not any browner on the other team either.

See, what has happened is that a pattern, a mental virus, a social and legal virus, was set into people, particularly here in America, where we were initially only trumped by insane racialized classifications by South Africa. But then they fell off of their apartheid game.

So yeah, a Black man not dating a White woman or finding them attractive, is racist.

But here’s the kicker—-we were ALL programmed by our entire families, and they by their preceding families and they by previous generations—-to classify and treat people by racial designations.

But alas, someone will argue that they don’t see race, they don’t believe in the construct.

I then challenge back—but you adhere to the construct.

When you filled out your Voter Registration, DMV-Driver’s License, hospital forms, job application, Census form—-every time we check off a box of what we (or another “is” in the racialized hegemony—-we’re supporting the overall systemic racist classification.)

Yes, Black folk too.

I would offer that in the deep seeded concern/fear our back families, particularly to Black men, dissuade us (as I’m sure Asians and Latinos and even Jews do) from getting too close to White women.

Is it changing?

Yes.

But what the question wraps around too is a question of privilege and power. Those two factors changing how we interact with one another. The mark of a lessening of racialization is interracial relationships and therefore children.

We weren’t meant as people to be this segregated for this long. America is unique is such stratification because of population controls and our isolation from a casual influx of “other” kinds of people. It’s not easy to inter-mix here when there have been such dire punishments for hundreds of years backed up by laws (many still technically on the books around America).

So the truthful answer is that Blacks have always been safer avoiding Whites and their pernicious and casually fickle privilege around race. But at the same time, we need the world to change, as people who aren't White need education, resources, healthcare——we need deeper and equitable integration.

It’s completely and historically understandable and even enforced that you not feel attraction to White women.

As Black men, we don’t have a bloodless history there, so it will take a few more generations to quell those understandable terrors and numbness.
