Liberation List (Blaxploitation film classics): Black Caesar w/ Fred Williamson

Black Caesar

Early on in BLACK CAESAR a flashback scene with a '16-year-old Fred Williamson' and his "Brainy" friend is mired by amateur acting (a scene like this is spoofed Very Well in the funny "Black Dynamite" movie...).
Other than the occasional non-professional thespians BLACK CAESAR is a better B-movie, Blaxploitaion, crime-drama than most would believe.
Fred Williamson stars as Tommy Gibbs with plenty of brawn and burning ego to help the proceeding story of a black man's rise to the top of the NYC crime "Syndicate". His violent behavior (somewhat justified by crooked cop, played well by Art Lund) causes a rift between his wife (a 'forced marriage), the best friend, his mother (a maid), and his father (Julius W. Harris, from Live and Let Die) who Gibbs has just met.
Larry Cohen also wrote a good script throwing in some highly charged bigoted comments:
"You're lucky I'm even talking to you, Shadow ... I can't pay you like a white man!"
"Shine my shoes faster, boy!"
And the dialogue is adult, certainly, getting "racier" than that!
The eventual build-up of rage in BLACK CAESAR is quite palpable.
